Housed within a lush green space, The Evergreen has instantaneously become a local favourite for its sizzling barbecue platters, soju cocktails and Sydney’s only Korean high tea.
Modern Australian and Korean flavours collide at The Mix’s newest fusion bistro, The Evergreen. It’s the second restaurant for owner Anna Song, who also runs Chatswood’s JooMak, but it’s the first venue that she’s designed from scratch.
“At The Evergreen, we aim to provide a relaxing, cosy dining experience with a nature-friendly vibe which is achieved through our full glass windows that allow sunlight to warm our plants and trees,” says Anna.
Head Chef Jun Hwang (Sheraton Grand Sydney and Manly Greenhouse) brings new life to gastro-pub classics by infusing them with Korean staples and reinvents his childhood favourites with a twist.
The Evergreen’s lunchtime crowd love their loaded burgers with fillings like crumbed prawn, bulgogi marinated beef and Korean fried chicken. But the standout is their Korean-inspired high tea with a mix of sweet and savoury snacks including beef tartare on seaweed crackers, kimchi arancini and banana panna cotta, plus your choice of beer, wine or tea.
“At dinner, the mood changes to a fun, funky, jazzy bistro with Korean fusion foods such as the Korean barbecue platter, house-made gnocchi (an innovative take on tteokbokki) with Korean spicy sauce and tuna crudo with Jeju Island tangerine vinaigrette,” says Anna.
She particularly recommends the Korean barbecue platter which comes with sizzling pork belly, wagyu cube and chicken thigh, accompanied by tangy pickled radish, savoury soybean paste and crisp lettuce.
Bar Manager, Maureen Er has created a beverage menu where traditional East Asian and Korean flavours are twisted into signature cocktails like the Kimchi Margie and Lychee Makegeoli Spritz.
