The Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize, the country’s most lucrative prize for female artists, will unveil its 2024 winners on May 10 at the opening night.

This year’s competition attracted a record-breaking 2042 entries, showcasing a diverse range of artistic styles and media.

The Ravenswood Art Prize offers a total prize pool of $47,000, with a top award of $35,000 for the Professional Artist Prize. Emerging and Indigenous Emerging artists can vie for prizes of $5,000 each. There’s also a People’s Choice Award valued at $2,500, allowing visitors to the exhibition to vote for their favourite work.

Established in 2017 by Ravenswood School for Girls, the Art Prize aims to bridge the gap in representation for female artists in Australia. The competition is open to artists from all backgrounds and experience levels, with entries received from every state and territory.

The finalists’ exhibition will be on display from May 11-26, with free entry to the public. For those who can’t attend in person, a virtual tour and online sales platform will be available. The opening night will also be live streamed.

The Ravenswood Art Prize has become a significant force in the Australian art scene. Past finalists have seen their careers flourish, with increased exhibition opportunities and recognition. The competition has fostered a strong sense of community among female artists, providing a platform for them to connect and support each other.

A distinguished panel of judges will select the winners, including Ravenswood alumni artists Jade Oakley, Jennifer Turpin, and Katrina Collins, alongside visual arts professionals and practicing artists Kathryn Hendy-Ekers, Kathryn Minkley, and Lara Merrett.
