A Visual Feast of Chinese Calligraphy and Paintings by Franz Cheung

Franz Cheung’s Chinese calligraphy artworks highlight his beautiful calligraphic strokes, structure and writing tricks. Also on display are his Chinese paintings featuring zodiac animals, plants and scenic views. The exhibition also includes works using traditional Chinese painting techniques, as well as paintings with modern ideas such as ‘Iron bridge under moonlight’ and ‘Blue Smurfs touring in West Lake’.
Franz Chi Lik Cheung was born in Hong Kong and now lives in Sydney. He completed his Master of Studio Art at the Sydney College of Art, USYD, specialising in Chinese calligraphy and painting. He is continuously exploring art in a variety of styles and media and was featured in the short film ‘Four Immeasurable’ produced by filmmaker Keith Johnson.
Franz was a lecturer in Chinese Art History in Macquarie University. He teaches Chinese art in the Art Gallery of NSW, conducts workshops, and participates in events and celebrations in libraries, schools, art societies and art centres within various communities across Sydney.
Known for his accomplishments in Oriental calligraphy, Franz is the Vice President of the Australian Oriental Calligraphy Society. His calligraphy work appears in the 2005 Australian landscape photo album titled ‘Tranquil Waters’, which he co-authored with Ian Carlson. He has held numerous solo and group exhibitions in Australia and overseas.
