ABC Friends Celebrates World Environment Day

June 8, 2023 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

ABC Friends Northern Suburbs branch will celebrate World Environment Day with a talk by renowned Turramurra children’s author and wildlife photographer Jan Latta at their meeting on Thursday 8 June, 2023 at the Roseville Club, 64 Pacific Highway, Roseville from 11.45am.
Jan Latta is a powerful ‘voice’ for wildlife. For decades she has ‘captured’ wildlife on camera showing them living in their natural habitats in countries around the world. Jan’s experiences as a wildlife photographer continues to shape her evocative storytelling and messages about why endangered wildlife must be protected.
A trip to Rwanda in 1994 changed Jan’s life. When she had the rare opportunity to look a wild mountain gorilla in the eye she was determined to do something to help them. There are less than 600 mountain gorillas left in the world. Jan Latta decided to leave her successful career in advertising and publishing to become a wildlife photographer and author.
Since then Jan Latta has written many books to educate, entertain and inspire children to protect endangered animals. Her books reveal her real life experiences photographing chimps in Uganda, pandas in China, lions in Zambia, elephants in Amboseli, leopards in Sri Lanka as well as many other places.
Jan Latta’s interviews have been aired on ABC Radio.
Following the talk, guests are welcome to stay and join ABC Friends for lunch at the Roseville Club’s Bistrot (at own cost) with ‘Chef Paul’, a well-known local identity, known for his 12 years of delicious food at the former ‘Salt Pepper Nutmeg’ restaurant at Roseville.
