About the artist

Mona Zhang Yanfen is an Australian-Chinese impressionist painter, who combines Chinese and Western styles of painting. Her creative ideas are influenced by the basic theory of traditional Chinese medicine ‘harmony between man and nature’, as well as Western color and impressionist artistic creation.

In 2015, she went to Paris and other European art centres, including the United Kingdom and Italy. In the fields of France she was impressed by the endless sunflowers and created the work ‘Paris Fields’, mixing watercolor, acrylic and pen painting to create her own independent style.

In 1995, Mona studied sketching at the Royal Art School in Sydney, and has now joined as an Associate Member. In 2009, she studied advanced oil painting under famous teacher Roger Crawford at the National Art School in Sydney. She has had seven solo art exhibitions in Sydney and in China.

In 2010, she held a personal exhibition in Lane Cove, northern Sydney. In 2018, she held a personal exhibition, expressing her joy in Australian nature, at the School of Art in Jinan University Art College, and was interviewed on Guangzhou television.

Mona loves teaching art to children. In November 2023, she introduced her Sunrise Art Project to children across preschools in northern Sydney.
