Jacaranda Restaurant, Killara
Killara’s dining scene has a new crown jewel. Introducing Jacaranda Restaurant & Bar – a Modern Asian restaurant inside a mid 70’s icon building. Owned and operated by the newly renovated Killara Hotel & Suites, this Asian and Japanese-inspired eatery fuses traditional and innovative flavours with modern gastronomy and fresh Australian produce. The result is an exciting dining experience that one local diner declared is on par with Tetsuya’s!
“The inspiration behind Jacaranda Dining was the diverse demographic in the North Shore area, as well as people’s changing palette towards fresh and unique flavours, infused with the experiences of our talented chefs,” explains Kun Rahadian – Group General Manager for Hometel.
Jacaranda’s enticing menu of share plates and playful desserts was carefully curated by award-winning Executive Chef, Alf Ma, who hails from an iconic restaurant and venue in Circular Quay.
“His influences are predominantly inspired from growing up and emulating his grandmother’s style of cooking and infusing this with his creativity as well as an understanding of what guests want to see,” Kun says.
For starters, Kun recommends Jacaranda’s pacific oysters, Hokkaido scallop, tempura cauliflower and stuffed chicken wing. The steam market fish, roast eggplant and ever popular wagyu strip lion MBS 6+ are ideal to share for mains, and best followed with tiramisu miso or lychee granita for dessert, which Isti describes as “a light palette cleanser to the rich flavours of north Asia and Japan.”
Jacaranda curated its beverage list to complement the food, offering everything from craft beers and sake to gin and whisky. They source 80% of these from local suppliers and 20% internationally.
Jacaranda Restaurant opened in mid-September, first with dinner and then breakfast and lunch late last month.
“The Kurringai precinct is like a large village and the sense of community is very strong,” Kun says. “The greetings of neighbours, the support, encouragement and well wishes during our hotel and restaurant opening have been very touching.”
The Killara Hotel & Suites team is excited to open The Ground Bar by Jacaranda in mid-October, which provides more than just a botanical backdrop for your next event – it boasts an outdoor bar, 75” LED TV and caters for 70 people seated and 150 standing. Stay tuned!
