“Magnificent, magical and consistently enthralling” – SMH

Internationally acclaimed Northbridge pianist Kathryn Selby AM and her magnificent ‘friends’ are back for live, on-stage concerts in 2021.  And their first national tour features Schubert and three important exotic 20th century composers with their re-imagining of the classical piano trio.

Kathryn Selby (piano), Susie Park (violin) and Julian Smiles (cello) combine for the first time to present works by Bloch, Turina, Shostakovich and Schubert in ‘Exotic Strudel’ – a mouth-watering offering of Romantic and neo-Romantic treats coming to Turramurra on March 14.

This delightful Selby & Friends 2021 season opener presents three powerful miniatures: each a fascinating glimpse of how three important composers of the first half of the 20th Century re-imagined the piano trio.  All composed within 19 years of each other and from vastly different European cultures, they contrast and complement the highly developed piano trio structure produced by Schubert 100 years earlier, at the end of the Classical Era and on the cusp of the Romantic.

Kathy said: “After a year when we connected with our audiences through the wonders of modern technology, we are excited to return to our live concert venues around Australia in 2021 and share once again, in person, our love of music and its immense ability to excite, heal, and inspire. Our 2021 Season is brimming with variety, complete with compelling pieces by beloved masters and others whose works deserve wider recognition. We are also set up perfectly for the ‘new normal’, with a great deal of thought put towards keeping artists and patrons safe: we will be fully guided by government advice and regulations on venue capacity and social distancing.”
