Waterside Bistro 

On the water in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, Waterside Bistro is the perfect spot for a coffee or bite to eat before heading out of a family outing on the water.

Serving breakfast and lunch, there is plenty to tempt even the fussiest of eaters, from light bites like hummus and corn chips, cheese toasties, and two sizes of kids’ milkshakes.  There is plenty to do around here with a nearby playground, bushwalks, a boat trip, or if the kids get their way, one of the fun pedalos.

Camper Tamper

Forget food and drinks for a second – the kids will love going to Camper Tamper Cafe’s in North Turramurra for the setup alone! Its artsy decor against white brick walls and ceiling floral arrangement is a welcoming sight, along with an outdoor deck area to enjoy the best of Sydney’s weather. Besides good coffee, the cafe’s all-day breakfast and lunch menu has the usual suspects like Eggs Benedict, smashed avo on toast, French toast, fish and chips, and Chicken Caesar Salad. Kids will find plenty of faves on the menu, and they have a stash of board games to keep them occupied. Just make sure to book ahead to avoid any disappointment.

Showground Cafe


St Ives Showground is a fabulous place for the kids to burn their beans, walk the dog, visit the markets and now there’s a cafe to help caffeinate tired weary parents on early weekend mornings! 

The café is located next to the main arena and close to the epic playground and the Tree Tops high ropes course. It’s open 6 days a week (Tuesday to Sunday) between 8am and 4pm, serving light meals for breakfast and lunch. The café is also be open for extended hours during major events.

If you have time to venture a little further afield, Galston’s hidden gem, The Vintage Secret Garden has gorgeous country charm. Imagine high teas, a cosy patio bathed in greenery, and a relaxing atmosphere with plenty of space for the kids to run around. The kids menu goes beyond the usual fare with waffles, bacon and egg rolls, gelato and milkshakes.
