Get set for all the music and all the fun as ABBA’s Mamma Mia! arrives on Sydney’s North Shore with the sensational Willoughby Theatre Company.
It’s the smash hit musical based on the chart-topping songs of ABBA that has played in more than 50 countries on all 6 continents to more than 65 million people, and now for the first time Mamma Mia! Is about to hit Sydney’s North Shore.
Willoughby Theatre Company is presenting the blockbuster musical for a limited season at The Concourse, Chatswood this October, in a production that is set to sweep audiences off their feet once again as they are transported to an idyllic Greek Island for an evening of love, laughter, and non-stop ABBA.
The musical, which has also spawned a smash hit movie starring Meryl Streep, tells the story of a bride-to-be trying to find her real father and features all the Swedish super group’s hits such as “Knowing Me, Knowing You”, “Thank You for the Music”, “Money Money Money”, “The Winner Takes It All” and the title track.
This production at The Concourse is directed by Declan Moore, who has helmed some of Sydney’s biggest community theatre musicals of recent years including The Phantom of the Opera, Evita, Mary Poppins, Wicked, and Shrek. Choreography is by Amy Curtin with Musical Direction by Matt Hearne.
The company has assembled some well-known Sydney performers for the production, including Karen Oliver who has performed on stages across the globe, in the leading role of Donna Sheridan. By her side is Janina Hamerlok as Tanya, and Tisha Kelemen as Rosie, both accomplished performers who have also graced stages across the country.
Director Declan Moore said: “Mamma Mia! Is a show that audiences return to time and time again. It is full of songs that everyone knows and loves from the musical legends that are ABBA, but also features a heart-warming story around the close bonds of family and friendships set in the beautiful surrounds of a Greek Island.
“We’ve added some unique new touches to our production to surprise and delight audiences and are privileged to have assembled some of Sydney’s most talented community theatre performers for our trip to ‘Waterloo’.
“So if you’re a ‘Dancing Queen’, then secure your seat to witness this spectacular musical – whether it’s your first time or you’re a ‘’Super Trouper’ who is returning once again.”
