The inaugural Mosman Photography Awards are now open for entries, and while Coronavirus may have ruled out a gallery exhibition and awards night, there is no better time to celebrate our fantastic local area through a photographic lens.
At Ku-ring-gai Living we are constantly amazed and impressed by the number of our members who post stunning photographs of where we live in our Facebook group. Photos by members routinely make up the most liked posts each week. They have a unique ability to capture a scene we all relate to, or to brighten our day. In these past weeks of isolation we have seen an even greater focus on appreciation for where we live through the lens of a camera or the click of a smart phone.
For this reason, we are thrilled to be partnering with the Mosman Photography Awards as their official media partner. The launch of these awards has been a long time in the planning by a committed team of local photographers from the Mosman Camera Club.
Open to amateur photographers who are Australian or NZ residents, the awards aim to encourage the use of photography as a creative medium for the making of traditional and contemporary images. There are both youth and open awards, and the categories have been adapted to suit requirements for social distancing.
– Comedy Pets
– Faces in Safe Places
– Smartphone Photography @ Home
– Landscape Portfolio
– Life in a Time of Social Isolation
– Art Portfolio
– Analogue Film Portfolio
The judges represent some of Australia’s top photographic talents and a wealth of experience in judging, including two grand masters of photography (as adjudicated by the Australian Institute of Professional Photography). Mosman Living members will be well acquainted with local judge, Robin Moon, and the popular photos she often posts in our group.
Entries close at 5pm on June 19. Judging will be completed by the end of July with Winners announced in August. The previously announced Awards Event has been cancelled due to the social isolation measures introduced by the State and Federal Government. Winners will be announced by email and through social media outlets, with a display of winning entries hosted on the Awards Website and Social Media.
We will be bringing you updates as the entries come in, so grab your camera or your Smartphone, encourage the kids to get involved, and see what you can achieve!
