It’s hard to believe, but the School Holidays are upon us! As always, our local area has a multitude of great options to keep the kids entertained and educated. Here we take a look at some fantastic ideas for you to consider – from resilience building to sport, art and music, plus the world’s biggest jumping castle, there’s something for everybody!

Big Music Holiday Rock Camp, Crows Nest

If your child has ever dreamed of being in a rock band, or just really likes music – Big Music in Crows Nest is the place to be these school holidays! Big Music has been running their Holiday Rock Camp program with great success, and all the staff are qualified musicians who are passionate about encouraging a love of music in their students. There’s no musical experience necessary, with a course to suit kids of all ages and any skill level! The emphasis of the camp programs is simply on fun and participation in learning to play popular music with other kids!

Good to Know: These popular Holiday Camps cater for all kids aged 5+ regardless of their prior musical experience. Each day runs from 9am to 3pm, culminating in a performance for family and friends on the last day. Places are limited and often sell out, so ROCK ENROL NOW!

Chatswood Tennis Club Holiday Camps, Chatswood

Our holiday programs run during all school holidays (including private school holidays) and staff development days so you can leave your kids with us for a day, week or a few weeks and rest assured they will play lots of tennis, sport and have lots of fun!! Our Camps are divided into three different camps: Red (5 to 7 years old), Orange & Green (8 to 12 years old) and Yellow (11+ years old).

Our Multi sport program runs after lunch, or participants can choose to book into the Art & Craft program which runs Monday – Thursday for their afternoon session. On Friday afternoons (or the final day of the camp week), the whole camp participates in our Finals Day, where everyone has the opportunity to play our end of week tournament, win prizes from a variety of games or win our end of week trophies.

Tennis conducted by professional coaches in graded groups, plus an excursion of your choice and round robin tournament on the final day

Cockatoo Island School Holiday Program, Cockatoo Island

These school holidays, escape with friends and family to Cockatoo Island on Sydney Harbour!

Between Saturday 21 December 2019 and Sunday 26 January 2020, there will be an exciting program of activities including vacation care, immersive tours and historic crane demos. Children will have opportunities to learn outdoors, make friends and tap into their creativity as they discover one of Sydney’s most extraordinary places. Plus, families can pick up free Convict Clues or Ship Shape Challenge activity books from our Visitor Centre.

The Big Bounce: St Ives

The Worlds Biggest Jumping Castle is coming to St Ives this summer holiday! The official Guinness World Record holder for World’s Biggest Jumping Castle will be on site at the St Ives Showground with dedicated sessions for specific age groups. Features include The World’s Biggest Jumping Castle, The Giant – Australia’s Biggest Inflatable Obstacle Course and airspace, which has slides, ball pits and a 20 meter tall maze. Live DJs will be playing and there will be climbing towers, basketball hoops, slides, ball pits, confetti blasts, bubbles, crazy dancing and even crazier competitions. This event is likely to sell out.

Room on the Broom: The Concourse, Chatswood

Room on the Broom, adapted from the award winning picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. will be at the Chatswood Concourse this summer! We’ll all find out:

Running a full spectrum of programs over the summer holidays, Ku-ring-gai Art Centre will be hosting kids’ sessions this summer that include painting, drawing, pottery, creative writing, printmaking, mixed media, puppet-making, embroidery, beaded jewellery, self-portraits, guitar workshops, comic book art mixed media and more. The Sphinx Memorial to Bobbin Head Track: Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park

Explore Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park’s popular trails. The Sphinx Memorial to Bobbin Head Track is a 10km loop. This moderately difficult track takes on average 3.5-4.5 hours of walking. Be sure to read the link’s important information, such as park opening and closing times, getting there, parking, etc.

Alternatively, The Sphinx, Warrimoo and Biggeragong Track is a 13.7km long loop that reaches an elevation of 327 metres. Moderately trafficked, it features and is primarily used for hiking, walking, trail running, and nature trips. Note this track is also a loop.

Good to know: Hikers are encouraged to do some research online as several sites and blogs offer opinions and photos from the walk, and valuable information can be learned. This link for example, suggests some other kid-friendly walks in addition to the above, and provides hand-curated trail maps and driving directions as well as detailed reviews and photos from hikers, campers and nature lovers.

Be sure to check the weather, and pack supportive walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen enough water for each person and snacks for the trip.

The Jazz Factory: Gordon

Summer School 2020 at The Jazz Factory will be running for two weeks in January. Week one will be Make a Musical. From January 14 – 17 for ages 5-13 from 9am – 3pm, kids will learn singing, acting and dancing, culminating in a musical theatre production on the Friday afternoon.

Week two is entitled Make a Music Video. From January 21 – 24 from 9am – 3pm ages 5-13 will learn dance styles and will film a music video on the Friday incorporating all the choreography they have learnt during the week.

Date: Week one is January 14-17; week two is January 21-24.

Bush Kids School Holiday Program: St Ives

The Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden will be running Bush Kids school holiday activities again this summer. These feature simple but fun hands-on programs for kids who love nature. Starting as early as December 20 and running on the announced days until 28 January, programs are tailored to suit varying ages. These include Junior Ranger Apprentices, Natural Christmas Decoration, Nippers on Holidays, Splish Splash, Busy Butterflies, Nature Detectives and more.
